Updating Your Will

There are different circumstances and changes that happen in your life and it is important that you update your will according to those changes. Here is some important information and reasons why you should update your will.

1. You may have got married recently, so you will need to update your will and add your spouse and any children to your will. You might have recently got divorced and need to take your ex-spouse off of your will. These are important changes that need to be reflected on your will because you want your assets going to the right person and not the wrong person.

2. You may have the birth of a new grandchild that you would like to add to your will as a beneficiary along with your other grandchildren who are beneficiaries already.

3. If you happen to get into a new relationship and decide to have children, you may want to choose someone as a guardian until the child is no longer a minor.

4. If you decided to start an Arizona business, you will want to add that to your will.

5. If you recently bought or sold any of your property in Arizona, you will want to make those changes in your will.

6. If you move to a new state you will want to check with your new state’s rules regarding your current will and make changes if needed.

7. If someone you have listed, as a beneficiary on your will happens to pass away, you will want to update your will and remove his or her name.

8. Changes are being made all the time to state and federal tax laws, so if the estate and property you have listed in your will is affected, you will want to make those changes.

9. If you have recently become a part of an organization or donate to a charity, you can list the charity or organization as a beneficiary on your will.

10. You will want to check and review your will if it has been 3 years or longer since you have checked it.
